Foot reflex massage originated with the North and Central American Indians. Around 1913, the American physician William Fitzgerald systematized reflexology after observing that Native Americans massaged certain points on the foot when they were sick or in pain, resulting in improvement.
The Egyptians, Indians and Chinese have also known about reflex zones and their interactions for thousands of years. Even in ancient times, doctors treated their patients with a foot massage. Each organ has its own zone on the foot, through which a balancing effect on the corresponding organ can be achieved. The left and right feet reflect the left and right sides of the body. However, it has not yet been scientifically explained how these remote effects occur in the body.
Since the foot reflex massage acts on the entire body through the feet, the range of effects of this massage is very extensive. Basically, the massage can have a positive effect on all diseases of the organs, relieve or heal pain in various muscle groups and support the body during stress and exhaustion. It can also be used in addition to other methods.
Since foot reflex massage is performed only on the feet, it is especially important that they are healthy. Therefore, it cannot be used in case of skin diseases, open wounds on the feet or athlete’s foot. It is also not recommended for patients with high blood pressure, acute vein injuries or varicose veins. In case of pregnancy, psychological stress or serious illnesses it can have a relaxing effect, but caution is advised and in case of doubt it is recommended to consult a doctor.
